It’s not usual to experience some of New York’s finest restaurants by being whisked between them in a golf cart set up in an aisle of the theater. But that’s what’s gonna happen on September 16e and 17e when The American Express Gold Card presents The Resy Drive-Thru New York, a collaboration between the credit card company and the booking platform, moves to Skyline Drive-In in Brooklyn.
“We are thrilled to partner with Resy and our dining partners to bring together some of New York’s finest restaurants under one roof for just two nights,” said Shibli Juneja, Vice President, US Consumer Products at American Express. . Apparently, this concept was born out of research showing that consumers were more willing to dine out this summer and do so with unique experiences. According to Amex Trendex, 55% of consumers said they plan to spend more on dining out this year than last; 73% of Millennials and Gen Z said they are willing to spend more money on unique experiences than last year. So, spot the waterfront location, golden golf carts, and constructed sets ranging from a bodega to a subway station, ending with a block party with DJ.
Upon arrival, diners settle into their chauffeur-driven golf cart to be driven from restaurant to restaurant for a 10-course tasting menu designed to showcase New York’s diverse cultures and cuisines such as Cantonese, Indian, Mexican, Italian, Persian, Middle Eastern and Regional American. and American soul food. Among the restaurants affected: Dhamaka, the Indian restaurant on the Lower East Side and a reservation very difficult to obtain; Harlem’s Soul Food icon, Sylvia’s; the popular American Cantonese restaurant Bonnie’s in Williamsburg; Middle Eastern restaurant Shuka in Greenwich Village, international/seasonal restaurant Crown Shy and American classic Union Square Café in Danny Meyer’s Flatiron District. The menu will include some of their most popular dishes, slightly modified for this event, such as Bonnie’s Yao Yu (grilled squid marinated with olives, candied lemon and herbs); Sylvia’s crab cake bites; Chef Ayesha’s falafel sandwich wrapped in Shuka’s laffa bread; Dhamaka dilliwala butter chicken with jeera pulao and Crown Shy’s satsuma, vanilla and meringue ice cream sandwich.
Tickets cost $110, are available in groups of two or four, and go on sale to the general public on August 17. (American Express Gold Card members who linked their cards to their Resy accounts got the first dibs today and those tickets sold out within hours.) Other benefits for Gold Card members: 11 extrae courses at Razza, the Jersey City pizzeria that recently received a rave review from The New York Times; a dozen bagels with cream cheese from bagel icon H&H Bagels for the next morning and two drinks at the block party.
