NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Firefighters battled an overnight blaze that damaged businesses in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx.
Flames were shooting from a rooftop on Bailey Avenue near 238th Street less than an hour before midnight, CBS2’s Alice Gainer reported Tuesday.

The blaze spread, going to four alarms and requiring nearly 170 firefighters to put it out.
Company owner Jose Severino examined the damage inside the Tilila Bar and Grill.
âI’m really sad now. I didn’t know it was so much damage, âSeverino said. “I have little damage to the ceiling but, again, the water has ruined everything.”
Severino returned to his six-year-old family restaurant on Tuesday morning and explained the call he received from his manager the day before.
“He said there was smoke coming out of my house,” Severino told Gainer.
He told them to get out and call 911.

âThey had a problem with the gas, they shut it off for two months. Then COVID came, then this. It was one after the other, âGomez said.
At least five businesses are damaged, including a laundromat and a local grocery / grocery store. Customers were heartbroken.
âWe know everyone. We have our sandwiches here. Everyone hangs out, âsaid Elvin Mendez.
The neighborhood was also the scene of an apartment fire in September. It was across from the shops.
Business owners said it would take more to destroy their dreams.
âWe are coming back and I hope it gets better,â said one owner.
Some businesses located in the street directly behind the fire were closed Tuesday while the Ministry of Buildings came to inspect.
