Houston-area Blood Bros BBQ in Bellaire makes New York Times list of the 50 best restaurants

Blood Bros. was named to the Restaurants List, a collection of the 50 most exciting restaurants in the United States from the New York Times. The Bellaire BBQ Restaurant was the only Houston-area restaurant to make the list, and it’s one of five Texas locations highlighted in history.

Blood Bros has received local and national acclaim for a menu that features traditional barbecue dishes on a page and a collection of Asian-inspired spin-offs brothers Robin and Terry Wong and pit master Quy Hoang launched. on the other.

“The daily changing menu at this mall barbecue restaurant in a Houston suburb is the product of seemingly endless ideas for cooking a Texan barbecue that swirl through the heads of owners and staff,” wrote the Times. “One day, steamed buns and smoked chicken karaage. The next day, char siu pork banh mi and Thai green curry pudding balls. All contain meat smoked by pitmaster, Quy Hoang, who owns the restaurant with the Brothers Terry and Robin Wong But these disruptors don’t disdain the classics: their traditional beef brisket, ribs and homemade sausages are excellent and available every day.

Recognition on the national list comes just after Blood Bros. opened a location at Resorts World in Las Vegas, a 24,000 square foot dining hall that includes 16 restaurants serving international cuisines. Additionally, after opening in 2018, it was selected as one of the Best New Restaurants by CultureMap, Bon Appétit, and Texas Monthly in 2019.

Other Texas restaurants on the New York Times list include:

  • Southern Roots Table: The Dallas-based soul food restaurant at Farmer’s Branch takes inspiration from chef Tiffany Derry’s Louisiana background with dishes such as okra, cornbread, and potato fries with duck fat.
  • Lonja fish: Chef and owner Alejandro Paredes opened the seafood restaurant just a few years after his success with Carnitas Lonja in San Antonio. Fish Lonja is known for its fresh seafood dishes with a Mexican influence.
  • Sylvie’s: Brownsville’s staple is a taco restaurant also known for their dishes like machacado con huevo a la Mexicana.
  • Birdie’s: Austin’s wine-focused over-the-counter restaurant offers dishes like steak tartare, roasted eggplant, and golden crusted panisse.
