Riko’s Pizza, a staple of thin-crust, hot-oil pizza in southern Connecticut, recently opened its first location in Florida.

The pizzeria announced Thursday that its new restaurant in Tequesta, near Jupiter, is now open at 560 North US Highway 1. It’s the first Riko’s outside of the Northeast, joining Connecticut locations in Stamford and Norwalk and outposts from New York to Long Island.

The chain now operates on a franchise model. New Canaan native franchisees Jay FitzGerald and Charlie Aysseh are also planning a new location in Fairfield, they announced in May. The new pizzeria at 1920 Black Rock Turnpike should open “hopefully by November,” Riko noted in an Instagram comment this week.

Riko’s menu includes her signature hot oil pie, drizzled with chili-infused oil, and others with clams, chicken, and vegetables. An option for meat lovers is filled with pepperoni, ham, bacon and sausage. “Salad pizzas” feature a pizza crust with tomato sauce and the customer’s choice of salad on top, such as Caesar, spinach, or antipasto. New additions include a hot honey pie with pepperoni, ricotta and basil.

Riko’s also offers baked wings, desserts and cocktails like a “Riko’s stinger margarita”, with stinger pepper infused tequila.

Stamford has also seen an influx of New Haven-style apizzas in recent months. Sally’s Apizza opened on Summer Street in October, and Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana plans to open a new location on High Ridge Road, next to a Shake Shack. But the city still has a style all its own, locals say, influenced by both Elm City and New York.
