LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Authorities have issued a community alert for Los Angeles residents, warning of an ongoing criminal trend called “home thefts.”

The Los Angeles Police Department has listed neighborhoods such as Melrose and the Jewelry District as well as upscale nightclubs and restaurants as locations where these crimes were committed.

In Melrose, there has been a spate of thefts in recent months, ranging from employees detained at gunpoint to diners stolen while they were eating, with even one victim shot dead outside. from a shoe store.

According to police, in home robberies, suspects typically target victims wearing expensive handbags or jewelry, such as watches and necklaces, follow them home or work, and steal them. In some cases, suspects target victims using social media to track potential victims. Police have increased foot and bicycle patrols in Melrose due to the recent increase in this crime trend.

Authorities advise residents to be aware of their surroundings, to be careful when displaying valuables in public, and if residents have any idea that someone might be following them, to call 911 and to go to the nearest police station.
